Backhaus, a dog-friendly establishment, has been crafting naturally leavened sourdough breads with a German influence since its inception in 2016. This San Mateo eatery also delights patrons with delicious pretzels, pastries, and viennoiserie. Complementing its baked goods, Backhaus offers a curated selection of coffee sourced... from various local Bay Area roasters, alongside tea from Leaves & Flowers in Berkeley. The restaurant's journey began in a San Mateo home kitchen, progressing to KitchenTown, a commissary kitchen and food startup incubator, before opening its first brick-and-mortar location in downtown San Mateo in June 2019.
