Since its humble beginnings as a snowball stand in Lafayette in 1932, Poor Boy's Riverside Inn has grown into a celebrated Acadiana institution, now with two full-service locations in Lafayette and New Iberia. This dog-friendly restaurant traces its roots back to Hulo "Poor Boy" Landry, who, despite a flour allergy that ended... his baking career, launched his entrepreneurial journey during the Great Depression with a hand-pushed wagon and a modest investment. From those initial snowballs, Hulo's vision expanded to include hamburgers and the now-famous "Poor Boy" sandwiches. With contributions from his wife, Eugenia, and a supportive circle of friends and family, the menu evolved further, incorporating fresh seafood and Kansas City steaks. The second establishment, the Little River Inn, opened in 1988 in New Iberia, offering diners a view of the historic Trappey oak, believed to have been planted in 1630.
