Thai culture, it faced initial disapproval from the landlord who believed it had an "obscene" connotation. However, the restaurant's proprietors decided to retain the name, partly to honor the resilience of Phuket Island following the devastating 2004 Tsunami, aiming to evoke thoughts of Thailand. Adding a romantic layer to the narrative, "Phuket" is also the very honeymoon destination where Mr. and Mrs. Phuket celebrated their marriage in 2000, a place they wished to revisit daily through their restaurant.
