Established in 2009, Happy Sparrow Cafe brings a taste of Texas to Portland with its signature kolaches. This dog-friendly establishment specializes in these soft, sweet, hand-rolled buns, baked to a golden perfection and generously filled with both sweet and savory options. Patrons can savor fillings featuring local favorites... like Zenner’s Sausage Company sausages, Tillamook cheese, and Nutella, alongside coffee from Longbottom Coffee Roasters. The kitchen crafts all fruit and cream cheese fillings in-house, ensuring a fresh, delicious experience. While many flavors rotate weekly, three to four consistent favorites are always available. Happy Sparrow Cafe also accommodates large orders upon request. The original Texas couple who founded the cafe in 2009 passed the torch at the beginning of 2023 to a new owner eager to continue the kolache tradition and keep the neighborhood coffee shop thriving, embarking on a fulfilling journey of cafe ownership.
