Nestled just 100 yards from the beautiful shores of Anna Maria Island, Skinny's Place offers a classic Old Florida beach pub experience, established in 1952. This dog-friendly spot, with its open-air, screened-in wood-framed windows and rustic wooden bar, transports visitors to a bygone era. Skinny's Place is celebrated for its... burgers, consistently voted #1 for several years, featuring a variety of types and sizes. The menu also includes grilled chicken sandwiches, boneless buffalo chicken pieces, veggie burgers, Grandma's homemade chili, BLTs, and a small kids' menu with grilled split hot dogs. Complementing the food are eight frosted draft beers on tap, with Budweiser drafts served in frosty mugs during Happy Hour for just $1.00. The establishment's roots trace back to 1936 when Carl and Janice Freeman discovered this beachside location, vowing to return and start a business, which they did in 1952. Now, their daughter Jan and grandson Clark carry on the legacy, with support from family. Grandma Skinny, who recently celebrated her 94th birthday, is often present, sharing stories and authentic Anna Maria Island history from the late 1930s onward. The restaurant was renamed Skinny's Place in 2001 to honor Grandpa Skinny, who built the original beach shack in the 1950s. Visitors should anticipate a relaxed "Island Time" atmosphere where food is cooked to order, and patience is appreciated.
